| Notes/Domino Release 8.5 is now available for download! One major enhancement is Domino Attachment and Object Service (DAOS). Big attachments increase database size, compaction times, indexing times, and so on. In 8.5, DAOS takes the big attachments out of the database, storing them on the file system instead. Attachments are single instanced, so only one copy of that 10MB attachment is saved instead of 100 copies.

| Gartner just published a Q&A document covering some of the questions they received around Lotus Notes and Domino at their recent Symposia events. The answers: that migration is costly and typically not justifiable, that IBM will continue to deliver Notes/Domino in the foreseeable future, and that Notes/Domino 8 is delivering benefits (and wins) in the marketplace.
